Ummm, about that recovery…

We keep hearing bluster about how the economy is recovering.  Bluster.  Let’s see, there was that announcement about job creation and the unemployment rate dropping to 8.9%.  Of course, in the midst of the trumpets and hallelujah choruses there was the note that the reason for the drop was not the “job creation”, rather it was the number of people who quit looking for work basically cooking the numbers for the Obama Administration.

Immigration laws that work…

Illegal immigration is a huge drain on the US.

It’s a direct assault on out culture – “Press Two for English”. It’s a direct assault on our heritage, the concept of the US being a melting pot where immigrants seeking freedom can assimilate into our culture, “Out of Many, One”, the famous quote from the Great Seal of the United States that Al Gore got exactly backwards. And illegal immigration is an assault on our financial stability and resources.  According to the Center for Immigration Studies, states with the biggest budget problems also have the biggest “immigrant financial” problems, specifically California and Arizona.  In fact, the cost if illegal aliens is about equal to the budget deficits in most financially strapped states

What a difference a “D” makes…

…and that would be “D” as in “D”emocrat, not “d” as in “d”ay.

Remember back a couple of years when oil prices went over a hundred dollars a barrel and gas prices broached $4 a gallon. You will also remember the screeching from Democrats and their media slaves about how George W Bush and Dick Cheney were profiting from the suffering of American families who were paying big prices at the pump. In March of 2008 the Washington Post ran a story – one of thousands, so yes, I’m cherry-picking but it’s not much different than of the ilk they published on this subject – where they made the following note…

A profile in courage? Nope.

I’m talking about my Governor, Jan Brewer.

If you don’t live in Arizona you probably think that Governor Brewer is a hero for her signature on SB1070 last year.  Occasionally we see things written praising her and I’ve even seen a couple of misguided commenters who though she’d be a good VP candidate.  Ummm, no.

A quick snapshot of history before we get to today.  Jan Brewer was elevated to the Governor’s job in Arizona when President Obama nominated Janet Napolitano to head DHS.  Brewer was Secretary of State and AZ has no LtGov, the SoS is next in line.  Let me note that succession is a huge problem for us.  In the last 30 years, we’ve had three Governors leave office and be replaced by the SoS.  It’s been less that a good thing in all three instances.

Brewer’s first act upon becoming Governor was to have to put together a new budget.  Arizona has the second biggest budget shortfall problem in the US behind California, as a percentage of total budget.  We also have a requirement that the Governor sign a balanced budget.  So, Brewer submitted a budget that relied on a sales tax increase (temporary, 3 years) for about a billion dollars, one-time federal funds for another billion and some token budget cuts.  We wouldn’t have gotten the token budget cuts if a group of Republican freshman legislators hadn’t stood up and said NO!  The sales tax revenues have fallen short – color me shocked – and the fed funds are gone, never to be seen again.

Unemployment and JackAssery **UPDATED**

I’m going to stray today from my normally politically correct, softball writing and call a spade a spade.

Barack Obama and his US Department of Labor are a bunch of lying whores.  (With apologies to sex workers who don’t deserve the comparison.)  Their latest exercise in attempting to sell a bill of goods to the American people is their latest pap on unemployment.  This is just another exercise in why I don’t trust either statisticians or government employees.  Both are congenital liars, to the point where they don’t even realize they’re lying.  What never ceases to amaze me is that they are able to use media outlets like The New York Times to smear their pap and the folks at The Times seem to do it with glee in their hearts.  I know I shouldn’t be amazed, but the level of gross stupidity and ignorance of even the basic facts – when all the data is numbers – is overwhelming and I expect better, even of products of the re-education camps run under the guise of “schools of journalism”.  OK, so much for my whining.  And, Mrs908 recommends a fine sharp white cheddar available at Trader Joe’s to go with the 908Whine™.

Want to move your state party to the right?

Here’s how you do it.

But first, some background.  If you spend any time at all around conservative blogs or Tea Party folk you will get an eye/ear full about “RINOs” – Republicans In Name Only.  People who run as Republicans and vote against conservative interests a good portion of the time.  Some names on the national level that you will probably recognize will give you a good idea of the folks we’re talking about.

  • John McCain (Immigration)
  • Dick Lugar (Virtually Everything)
  • Orrin Hatch (see Lugar)

Lynching teachers…

…or so you’d think from the whining.

You’ve really got to hand it to teachers.  They’ve managed to sell society a real bill of goods over the last 40 years or so.  Now don’t get me wrong, there was a time when teaching was a very honorable profession.  Profession.  Teachers actually cared about having children learn and develop a thirst for life-long learning.  That time died a violent death with the advent of the NEA and AFT and so-called “schools of education” that handed out undergraduate and graduate degrees in, of all things, “education” and they transformed teachers into “educators”.
