Nightmare Act is DEAD!
…for now at least.
The Nightmare Act of 2010 – know also as the DreamAct – is dead. Supporters of illegal immigration have been trying to foist this nightmare off on us for what seems like forever. Bottom line, an illegal alien who manages to get into the US military or a US college would have been granted US citizenship. And, given the proclivity of US colleges and universities to pander to illegals, that would likely have covered significantly more than the “hundreds of thousands” of illegals that their supporters have been touting. Hopefully, we can give the president of the Fresno State Student Body a Christmas present and deport his illegal [self] back to Mexico. But somehow I doubt that the Obama Administration is going to be up to that.
Anyway, as noted by Breitbart this morning…
WASHINGTON (AP) – Senate Republicans have blocked a bill to grant hundreds of thousands of illegal immigrants brought to the United States as children a chance to gain legal status if they enroll in college or join the military.
Immigrant advocates viewed the measure as a step toward providing a path to legal status for up to 12 million illegal immigrants by focusing on the most sympathetic among them first. Critics called it a back-door grant of amnesty that would encourage more illegal immigration.
This travesty fell five votes short of the 60 required to halt debate in the Senate. Even John McCain, Lindsey Graham and the New England Contingent all voted against it. The ONLY Republican to vote YEA was Richard Lugar. Do we have a primary candidate for this turkey who is up in ’12? UPDATE: Lisa Murkowski also voted YEA, but we’re stuck with her for six years.
Anyway, good job Republican Senators. I would guess right now that this is a dead issue for the remainder of Obama’s term since Republicans will hold the House in the next Congress and I doubt any immigration-amnesty bills will get out of the House even if the Senate caves.
What a nice way to start the weekend. Another Obama “promise/priority” dies on the vine. And, given the threats of the Hispanic Democrats to start a third party, this could really get interesting. Nice lame duck Harry & Nancy. Extending tax cuts until the NEXT election cycle and killing the Nightmare. Heh.
