It’s that Culture of Corruption Thingy…

…isn’t it Nancy?

There’s really not much to be said beyond the facts in the Business Week article…

Dec. 15 (Bloomberg) — Pedro Espada Jr., the New York state Senate’s Democratic majority leader, was indicted with his son on charges of embezzling more than $500,000 from nonprofit health-care clinics in the Bronx section of New York City.

From 2005 through 2009, Espada, 57, and Pedro Gautier Espada, 37, abused their positions at Soundview Healthcare Center in the Bronx, which gets more than $1 million a year in federal funding, according to U.S. Attorney Loretta Lynch in Brooklyn, where the case was filed in federal court.
“The indictment alleges that funds that could and should have been applied to purchase medical equipment and enhance health-care services for an historically under-served population were diverted by the defendants for their personal use,” Lynch said yesterday in a statement.

In Cuomo’s earlier [civil] lawsuit [filed in April of this year], he claimed that Espada charged the clinics for $20,000 in takeout sushi dinners and billed them for $250,000 in personal expenses. The clinics spent more than $100,000 on campaign literature for Espada’s 2008 Senate bid, Cuomo said.

Cuomo also sued Espada a second time, saying he cheated clinic workers by designating them as “trainees” to avoid minimum-wage laws.

The only thing that really surprises me is that Business Week noted that Espada was a Democrat in the first paragraph. I guess that’s the difference between a real news magazine and the New York Time or Washington Post. It was a tad surprising that Cuomo seems to be relishing in the indictment as well.

Am I surprised that a politician – ESPECIALLY a Democrat – could steal from a business designed to serve the health care needs of the poor? Heh. His party has spent the last year orchestrating working on destroying health care for everybody, so this really isn’t such a big deal. Not to mention that his sushi bill was chump change compared to TheQueen™’s hotel bill in Spain. And then there was the “private beach” thingy. And Miss Nancy’s use of military aircraft to traipse back and forth to San Francisco. And then there was… oh hell, I’ll be typing all night…

You know if you could just wrap your head around the fact that republicans are just greedy warmongers, you wouldn’t notice things like this (sarcasm).

In the State of New York he won’t even get censured, judging by other, more widely known NY pols, he’s probably got a lock for life on his seat. At least until Harlem needs an heir for their House seat.

Just so long as you don’t use too much salt in NYC. . . anything else goes!
